We warmly welcome families considering Byron Wood Primary Academy for their child’s education. As part of the Astrea Academy Trust, we are committed to providing an inclusive and high-quality learning environment for all children.
Reception admissions
If your child turns five between 1st March and 31st August, you have the option to defer their start in Reception until later in the academic year. All applications for Reception places are managed through Sheffield City Council. You can apply online via the council’s website: Sheffield City Council Admissions.
We offer 60 places for Reception. If applications exceed this number, places are allocated according to our admissions policy, which prioritizes factors such as looked-after children, siblings of current pupils, and proximity to the school. Please note that attending our nursery does not guarantee a place in Reception; a separate application must be made through the local authority.
Nursery admissions
We offer 39 part-time nursery places. To register your interest, please contact the school office. Your child’s details will be passed to our Early Years Leader, who will reach out to you around your child’s third birthday to arrange admission. While most children start in September, we occasionally have spaces available throughout the year.
In-year admissions
If you wish to transfer your child to Byron Wood during the school year, applications are handled by Sheffield City Council. Visit their website for more information: Sheffield City Council In-Year Admissions.
Appeals
If your application is unsuccessful, you have the right to appeal. Appeals are heard by an independent panel, and their decision is final. For guidance on the appeals process, please refer to the Sheffield City Council admissions website.
Visiting the school
We encourage prospective parents and carers to visit our school. To arrange a visit, please contact the school office on 0114 272 3624. We look forward to welcoming you to our school community.
