Admissions

Admissions to Byron Wood Academy

We operate an “open door” policy and prospective parents are welcome to visit the school. Please contact the school office to make an appointment prior to your visit.

The school follows the Local Authority (LA) Admissions Policy. Children whose fifth birthday falls between 1st September and the 31st August will normally be admitted to full-time schooling in a reception class in September. Children whose fifth birthday falls between 1st March and the end of August can if they choose be admitted to full-time schooling in a reception class later in January. The LA is the admissions authority. All admissions to school at age five are administered by the Primary Admissions Team at Howden House.

Parents of potential pupils are welcome to visit us. Please contact Julie Rowbotham on 0114 272 3624 to make an appointment.

To register for a place at nursery, please ask at the school office where your child’s details will be taken.  These will be passed to Mrs Nicola Husbands (Early Years Leader) who will contact you just before your child’s third birthday to arrange admission.  If your child is already three, Mrs Husbands will contact you as soon as a space becomes available. Most children join the nursery in September but we do sometimes have spaces during the year.  If you have questions or would like to visit the nursery, please ring 0114 272 3624 and ask to speak to Mrs Nicola Husbands.

Parents please note – A place in our nursery does not automatically guarantee a place for your child in our Academy. A full application must still be made via the local authority adhering to the relevant deadlines detailed in the link above.

Admissions Consultation 2018 – We want your views!

Please see attached link asking for your views on the proposed Admissions for 2018. Please note that consultation closed on the 31st January.

Appeals Guidance

If your application for a place is unsuccessful, parents have a right of appeal and should contact the Primary Admissions Team. The Admissions Working Party, an impartial tribunal, hears appeals; their decision is final. More information is available on the Sheffield Council admissions website.
