At Byron Wood Primary Academy, we believe that every child deserves an excellent education. Our approach to teaching and learning is built around high expectations, strong relationships, and a deep understanding of what helps children succeed.
Our classrooms are calm, focused and welcoming. We create safe, structured spaces where children feel confident to take part, ask questions and give things a go. Learning is carefully planned and builds over time, helping children make strong progress across all subjects.
We value curiosity, resilience and a love of learning. Our lessons are designed to challenge and support every child, and our teachers use clear routines and consistent approaches so that children know what to expect and how to succeed. Every child is encouraged to take pride in their work and to aim high.
Reading is at the heart of our curriculum. We know that becoming a confident reader opens the door to success in all areas of learning and life. We also place great importance on developing strong communication skills, numeracy and critical thinking.
Learning at Byron Wood is about more than academic achievement. We want our children to be kind, respectful and thoughtful. Through our wider curriculum and school values, we help children grow in confidence, celebrate differences, and develop a strong sense of community and responsibility.
At Byron Wood Academy we are passionate about our school curriculum. We understand that children learn best when they have ownership of their learning, when they can see why they are learning and when they are having fun. Our skills-based curriculum clearly states what should be taught at each stage through school.
Foundation Stage– F1 and F2
Key Stage 1- Years 1 and 2
Key Stage 2- Years 3, 4, 5 & 6
The curriculum is developmental, building on children’s experience and prioritising English, Mathematics and I.C.T.
We aim to ensure that children develop the skills, knowledge and understanding which they will require in their future lives. The strategies we use for effective learning and teaching are outlined in the school Learning and Teaching policy (available in school on request).
